Practice/Mission/Vision Statement
My clinical training as a family therapist has given me a systems perspective on my clients.
An individual brings to the therapy session the strengths, wounds and historical effects of all their significant relationships. Examining some of the family of origin issues is part of the process while focusing on the current issue(s).
Making choices to change affects relationships. In working with adolescents and children, I believe that any substantial change in that child/adolescent affects the family dynamics just as pulling on one end of a mobile moves all the other parts.
Parents, whether together or apart, need to be part of the therapy process with their child to create healthier family relationships.
I see myself as an experienced "coach" for people who are stuck. I am passionate and animated running the sidelines but well aware I am not on the playing field.

About
I began my professional career in the '60s as a science teacher. This evolved into being Director of Centerpointe Crisis Center under the sponsorship of the Family Life Education Council.
Those 7 years broadened my perspective around the issues facing adolescents at that time.
Working with teens made me aware of the need for family involvement to effect change.
I finished a Masters in Social Work in 1977 and began a private clinical practice.
Having the entire family attend sessions was a somewhat novel way of working and 30 years later is still not the mainstream approach.
In these 30 years, I have become known locally and nationally for presentations of different facets of family life. I believe that injecting humor into serious subject matter creates an atmosphere where you can laugh as you learn.
In the past 10 years in addition to my practice I have had the great experience of being staff consultant and school counselor for the Grosse Pointe Academy.
